Twinspark - 16 Valve
The Twinspark engine was developed from an 8 valve engine, an all alloy wet-liner block and chain driven into a 16 valve engine with an iron block, alloy head and belt driven. The Twinspark 16V engines, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0, all use a 10 mm diametre and a 14mm diametre spark plug per cylinder and camshaft phase variator.

JTD & TD Engine
JTD (UniJet Turbo Diesel) is a common rail turbo diesel engine. The most common JTD engine is the 1.9 L (1910 cc) straight 4. The other variant is the 2.4 L (2387 cc) 5 cylinder engine.

The TD version is a 1929cc straight 4 engine.

V6 Engine
Alfa Romeo's V6 engine design made its debut in 1979. Initially introduced in 2.5 L guise, production engines would eventually range from 2.0 L to 3.2 L. Originally designed as a 12 valve design. In 1993 the first 24 valve version of this engine appeared.
This engine has since been replaced in the 159 and Brera coupe by a new 3.2 L V6 unit utilizing a General Motors designed engine block and Alfa Romeo designed cylinder heads and induction.

Twin Cam Engine - 8 Valve
Alfa Romeo Twin Cam engine is a all alloy 4 cylinder engine produced from 1954 to 1994. Introduced in the 1290 cc Giulietta in 1954. The capacity was increased to 1570 cc with the introduction of the Giulia in 1962. The twin cam engine was later increased to 1779 cc in 1968. The 1962 cc engine was introduced in 1971. The last examples of this engine 1590 cc, 1750 cc and 1995 cc went into production in 1985.

JTS Engine - 4 Cylinder
The JTS engine debuted in 2002. The engine replaced the 2.0 Twin Spark, by replacing this system with direct injection, dubbed "Jet Thrust Stoichiometric".

V8 Engine

Alfa Romeo's Montreal was powered by a dry sump 2,593 cc 90-degree quad-cam 16-valve V8 (type 00564) derived from the Tipo 33 race car.

Boxer Engine

The Alfa boxer engine was used in the Alfasud, the Sprint, the Arna (and Nissan Cherry Europe), the 33 and the early 145/146 models. It first appeared in the Alfasud in 1972. It was originally 1186cc and 63bhp, but over the years grew to 1712cc, and with 16 valves up to 137bhp in the pre-catalyst Alfa 33 16v Boxer and Permanent 4.
